2025 Workshops


En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air” and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist's subject in full view. This class will meet at different locations each week.

Learn about the materials used in oil painting, their history, and the different ways to apply techniques like underpainting, glazing, and alla prima painting with a focus on landscape painting.

When: Wednesdays, September 10 - December 03, 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

There is always an ongoing discussion about traditional and contemporary concepts, with frequent group and individual critiques. Students will receive one-on-one instruction on how to compose a painting, how to use the different mediums brought to class, and how to think about their art in the broader context of what is contemporary art.

Working from a variety of sources (photos, still-life, plein-air, life) we will explore the methods and techniques of oil painting. This class is for all levels.
